01 Sep 2015
Globe Metals and Mining Limited (ASX: GBE) has reached an agreement with the Malawi Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining providing the company with exploration and mining access rights for the Katengeza Graphite Prospect located in the eastern part of the Chiziro Project in the northeast region of Lilongwe in Malawi (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Location of the company’s Malawi projects
The Katengeza Graphite Prospect was explored for graphite potential during the colonial era (pre-1964) and has been mined intermittently by local prospectors.
The Katengeza Graphite Prospect is situated near the sealed Lilongwe – Salima highway and the Lilongwe – Nacala (Mozambique port) railway line.
The company has undertaken a preliminary assessment of the prospect that has included mapping and rock chip sampling. Initial results indicate graphite mineralisation similar to that of the company’s Chimutu Graphite Project also located within the Chiziro Graphite Project licence area.
The company is currently preparing plans to undertake further assessment of the Katengeza Graphite Prospect.
